What is a CSA?

CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture.”  It’s a way for the food-buying public to create a relationship with a farm and receive a weekly sack of locally grown produce.  By making a financial commitment to a farm, people become “members” or “subscribers” of a CSA.

CSA applications are currently being accepted.  Registration will close on May 1st, 2011.

Typically, CSA farms are small, independent, labor-intensive, family farms.  By providing a guaranteed market through prepaid annual sales, consumers are essentially helping preemptively finance farming operations, this not only allows farmers to focus on quality growing but also levels the playing field in a food market that favors usually large-scaled, industrialized agriculture over local food.
